From Iran to South Carolina

Posted December 24, 2013 in

America is the Land of Opportunity because it gives everyone, citizens and new immigrants alike, equal rights to pursue and fulfill their dreams.

Immigrants come to the United States for a better life, but also to realize their dreams of becoming successful movie stars like Arnold Schwarzenegger or very wealthy business owners like Sergey Brin of Google.

Mr. Ali Saifi left Iran nearly 40 years ago to start a life in the United States and has been very successful.   “It’s a most interesting country because it allows you to do what you want to do,” he said.

What Mr. Saifi wanted to do was open a restaurant. So in 1981 he followed his dream and bought a Subway franchise store in Greenville, South Carolina.  It was the very first Subway fast food store that he had opened in Greenville 30 years ago.  Today he has more than 400 stores and employs nearly 4,000 people.

But in fact, he employs more people than that:  non-direct employees including food distributors, truck drivers, packers and other vendors that provide goods and services to the stores and employees.

That’s the other part of the American Dream that your dream can help others realize their dreams too.  America is the best place for immigrants to succeed and with the Green Card Lottery program still available, the dream can become a reality for another 55,000 new family immigrants every year!
